Tomorrow had been hiding behind every breakfast. Now it was finally here.
Milo put the picture cards in order. First the jacket. Then the walk. Then one wave at the door.
Mum made the morning small enough to see: breakfast, backpack, school, then home again.
The brick school was still big, but now Milo knew the path from the gate to the blue door.
He zipped his rust-red backpack himself and tapped the last card. Home was already part of the plan.
The teacher knelt down to say hello. Milo did not have to know the whole room yet.
At the gate, Mum showed him the whole goodbye: one hug, one wave, then the blue door.
At the activity table, one boy held the rocket steady while Milo painted a bright blue window.
A blue circle marked his hook. Milo hung up his own backpack and remembered where it would wait.
After school, Milo ran toward Mum with a yellow star and six new things to tell her.
When they needed a place for the rocket, Milo tried the words he had practiced: “Can you show us where it goes?”
At home, he drew the morning in six boxes. Tomorrow was no longer one giant thing.
